چکیده

Substrate coupling can corrupt low level analog signals and impair the performance of monolithic integrated circuits. Therefore, a characterization methodology able to evaluate the efficiency of the countermeasures against crosstalk, appears very important for designers. In this paper, after the verification that PMOS transistors are more sensitive to substrate voltage fluctuations than NMOS ones, a new method is indicated for the noise reduction Key-Words: substrate crosstalk, coupling, sensors, small signal model

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions

In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...

Tri-mode Operation for Noise Reduction and Data Preservation in Low-Leakage Multi-Threshold CMOS Circuits

Multi-threshold CMOS (MTCMOS) is the most widely used circuit technique for suppressing subthreshold leakage currents in idle circuits. When a conventional MTCMOS circuit transitions from SLEEP mode to ACTIVE mode, voltages of power and ground distribution networks are disturbed. Mode transition noise phenomenon in MTCMOS circuits is examined in this chapter. An MTCMOS circuit technique with th...

Modeling of Substrate Noise Impact on a Single-Ended Cascode LNA in a Lightly Doped Substrate (RESEARCH NOTE)

Substrate noise generated by digital circuits on mixed-signal ICs can disturb the sensitiveanalog/RF circuits, such as Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), sharing the same substrate. This paperinvestigates the adverse impact of the substrate noise on a high frequency cascode LNA laid out on alightly doped substrate. By studying the major noise coupling mechanisms, a new and efficientmodeling method is p...

Reduction of Switching Noise in Digital CMOS Circuits by Pin Swapping of Library Cells1

The objective of this paper is to explore the applicability of a very specific design technique at a gate-level to achieve a reduction of switching noise in conventional CMOS digital circuits. The proposed technique optimizes switching noise maintaining operation speed, power consumption and transistor count. Basically, we will show how the selection of the suited pin in a gate for implementing...

A Four-Transistor Capacitive Feedback Reset Active Pixel and its Reset Noise Reduction Capability

A new CMOS active pixel with reset noise reduction capability using capacitive feedback reset (CFR) is proposed. The CFR pixel with capacitive feedback consists of a photodiode, four MOS transistors, a feedback capacitor and a buffer capacitor. It can be fabricated in standard CMOS process, thus yielding a low noise pixel without additional process steps. It has been confirmed with a fabricated...
